R. Joseph Leibovich
About Mr. Leibovich
R. Joseph Leibovich a member of the firm, and is chairman of the firm’s employment law section. During his career, Joe has represented clients in diverse federal and state employment litigation matters as well as appellate cases before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court. He has also represented clients in labor arbitrations and in mediations with federal agencies, and has assisted companies subject to investigations by government agencies. In addition, Joe has spoken on various labor and employment law issues in front of numerous groups, including the Tennessee Health Care Association, various Chambers of Commerce, and many private groups.
Joe is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Arkansas, and is admitted to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Western and Middle Districts of Tennessee, and the Western and Eastern Districts of Arkansas. Printed court opinions include Int’l Bhd., Local Union No. S-251 v. ThyssenKrupp Elevator Mfg., 365 F.3d 523 (6th Cir. 2004); Ledet v. Guardsmark Security, Inc., 84 FEP 1703 (S.D. Tex. 2001).
Joe graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1995. While attending law school, he was a member of the University of Memphis Law Review and Moot Court Board, and was a Regional Champion in the national mock trial competition.
The University of Memphis Law Review has published two pieces by Joe. (Privacy Goes Camping: Staking a Claim on the Fourth Amendment, 26-1 Mem. St. U. L. Rev. (1995); Bradshaw v. Daniel: Making Tennessee Physicians Liable for the Actions of Ticks, 24-2 Mem. St. U. L. Rev. (1994). Joe was also a contributing author to the American Bar Association book, Annual Review of Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation (2005). The Memphis Bar Association’s magazine, Memphis Lawyer, has also published articles by Joe.
Joe is a member of the the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Memphis Bar Association, and serves on the MBA’s Wellness Committee.
In addition to his legal career, Joe has been profiled in Memphis’ Commercial Appeal for his work as an improvisational and stand-up comic.
